In honor of National Preservation Month (May), Students from LISD Intermediate will walk to the square, and learn about the rich history of our historic downtown. Two hundred fourth graders and two hundred fifth graders will make stops at the Hockley County Library to visit with the librarian and learn about the old card catalog system of finding books. They will be encouraged to come back and get their own library card and visit the library during the summer and participate in the Summer Reading program. The fourth graders will pause and decorate the sidewalks surrounding our courthouse, with chalk art, learn about the buildings past and present, have lunch on the beautiful courthouse square and conclude with a tour of the pop up museum at the Wallace Theater and admire projects centering around the Dust Bowl Era, done by 8th graders at LMS.
Each building downtown has a colorful historical past and this Walking Tour gives the community a chance to get to know what Levelland was and how it's shaped our city today. The Walking Tour is self-guided but does require a smart phone.
